Today is our last day in Year 1. We have had a fantastic year and our teachers are very proud of all we have achieved this year. Mrs Hickey, Mrs Day and Mrs Capaldi would like to say thank you to our wonderful class for being a joy to teach. We wish you every happiness next year in Year 2. Finally thank you for your generous cards and gifts, it is so very kind of you all. Have a brilliant summer and please keep reading and practising maths skills. A recommended app you can purchase for iPads is DoodleMaths which is a fantastic resource.

Towards the end of term as a whole school we had a week focusing on healthy bodies and healthy minds. The school nurse spoke to us about looking after our bodies and keeping healthy. We designed a healthy lunchbox and made yummy fruit kebabs. Each day we took part in circuit fitness activities and running around the track.

Today as a whole school we had a 'British Values Day'. In Year 1 we explored stories about listening, accepting others, trust and the value of each person, thinking for ourselves about meanings. We considered 'What does it mean to be kind?' We thought about respect, acceptance and the democratic idea that 'every individual counts'.

Today we learned how to cross the road safely and how to walk safely along the pavement with our grown up. We must walk on the 'safe side' holding our grown ups hand and keep away from the edge of the kerb. We now know the Green Cross Code and how to dress brightly so that cars can see us. Reflective jackets are brilliant and we think it would be a good idea to wear one of these when we are walking.

Our new topic this half term is Fairy Tales. We have done freeze frames of the story of Cinderella and written about the story.
We have been learning about 3D shapes and their properties in Maths. In Science we have been learning about plants, we have planted some seeds and we are watching them grow. We have looked at the parts of a plant, different plants and also how important bees are to flowers. We collaged bees for our display.
We ended the week having a lovely FOSS lunch to celebrate the Queen's Birthday.
