London's burning! London's Burning!

We watched our houses go up in fire to re - enact 'The Great Fire of London'. The fire spread quickly because the houses were so close together and made out of wood.
We invited the Fire Brigade to come into school to help set our houses on fire. In the playground the children set the scene by arranging the house models to resemble a London street. The firefighters started the blaze at our scale model of Pudding Lane.

This has been an excellent way of finishing our topic on the Great Fire of London and really helped bring our topic to life.

Thank you to the Worcester fire brigade for giving up their time.

Tudor Houses

We have been learning about Tudor houses and how they were made. We talked about the houses in Pudding Lane at the time of the fire of London. We then created our own in small groups, wrapping up boxes before painting on the black beams. Some of us worked with Mrs Daniels to make a St Paul's Cathedral. They all look brilliant....until Monday afternoon that is!!!!!

What an exciting day today with the solar eclipse. We talked about safe ways to view it and had an assembly where we talked about it. When we went to the classroom we watched a live feed of the eclipse with the doors open and noticed all the birds changing how they sang!

Measuring weight

We have been learning how to measure weight using cubes as our unit of measure. We chose objects from the classroom to weigh and then estimated the number of cubes that would balance the scale.

The Great Fire of London

Today we listened to the sound of crackling fire and imagined what it would be like to have had to escape the fire. We used the photographs as visual prompts to imagine what could be seen, heard, felt and tasted. We then wrote an imaginary recount of our escape from the fire.

Fire of London

We talked about the fire of London and the sequence of events before acting out freeze frames of certain parts. They included; escaping from the fire, rowing the boats, the firefighters arriving too late, blowing up the houses and sheltering in tents!

We had a numeracy morning today looking at capacity. We had three stations and worked well in groups estimating and measuring different containers.  We got wet, Mrs Daniels and Mrs Capaldi got wet and the floor got soaked!  It proved to be a great morning and we learnt lots about estimation and capacity.

World Book Day

We had a lovely day yesterday for World Book Day and all looked amazing in our outfits! We had books as a theme for most of our lessons too. In numeracy we sorted fiction and non-fiction books into groups identifying the features we would expect to see in each. Then we designed our own book tokens with our favourite characters. We also linked it into our London topic by finishing our wonderful brochures full of information about London.
