Kites

Yesterday we made our own kites using dowel and coloured polythene, some of us even decorated them. When we finished and checked our wind streamers we could see that there was very little wind to fly them in :-(
So today we managed to go out and make them fly by running around the playground. We did have to do some first aid on some of them when we got back in but can't wait to take them out again next week!

We are Meteorologists

Today we went outside and observed the clouds. We performed a simple test to understand what clouds are made from. We now know that clouds are made from tiny droplets of water. We then made rain gauges and are going to use them to collect data- just like a scientist!

Scientists

Today we used our new scientific instruments (wind streamers!) to record the direction of the wind. We made our wind streamers before heading outside to see which direction they blew in, using the compass.

Weather Forecasters!

Today we have been super busy looking at the weather around the UK! We watched some weather forecasts, including Mrs Daniels UK report, as well as checking the weather for Sedgeberrow. In groups we labelled our own maps of the UK with countries and cities before deciding on weather symbols to use. The best bit was taking it in turns to do our own weather reports. We had tornadoes coming in from the East and snow storms in the West, the North even had lightening snow storms!

Big Top Production

Year One were AMAZING in the Big Top Performance today! Each and everyone of the children joined in for their chosen part in the show and we had some brilliant balancers, amazing gymnasts and very funny clowns! The photos do not do the show justice, the children definitely made it 'The Greatest Show on Earth!' Well done to all of them :-)

Circus Skills Workshop

Year One have enjoyed the Circus Skills Workshops. They learnt how to juggle, spin plates, do diabolo tricks, balance feathers,  ride mini bikes, walk on mini stilts and even the tightrope. As you can see from the photos they all had a wonderful time preparing for the Big Top production,  especially Mrs Capaldi who is now thinking of joining the circus as a tightrope walker!
