This week we have been learning about the Jewish festival of Hanukkah. We listened to the story of Hanukkah and made a dreidel. The dreidel is a game that Jewish families play around this time of year.

This week we have looked at Australia. We listened to stories and found out about Australian animals. We learnt about the Aboriginal people and the way they produce artwork using earth colours, we then created our own boomerangs with Aboriginal art on. Mrs Daniels bought in some original artwork and other Australian artefacts and we had so many questions! Luckily for us we could get them answered as Mrs Daniels cousins live in Australia so they sent us a video answering all we wanted to know about modern life in Australia....We particularly loved their 'Aussie twang'.

Yesterday we made some Spanish senorita gingerbread men and Spanish biscuit flags for the Macmillan coffee morning. Today we all came dressed up, it was great fun. We looked at information about Spain and leant some words, we even said 'good day' in Spanish to Mr Croke. We made some Spanish flags before we learnt some colours in Spanish that helped us finish a picture. We even had an afternoon siesta! :-)

We have been looking at our five senses, touch, taste, smell, sight and hearing. We then spent time testing our senses in different ways. We tried to recognise the sounds in the sound bag by closing our eyes. We then took it in turns to try different types of food, including lemons!:-) a sight test, where objects were removed and the children had to identify the missing objects. We also smelt different smells, some of us liked the mint and peppermint!
